Balmoral Cemetery With Peter McCabe
Opened in 1855, Balmoral Cemetery is the final resting place of numerous individuals who made a contribution to the Belfast of yesteryear.
This tour, lasting at least one hour, will call at more than 20 headstones with local taphophile (tombstone tourist) Peter McCabe making a brief introduction to each. Stops will include suffragist Isabella Tod, architects William Batt, John Young and Robert McKenzie, and Presbyterian ministers Reverends Henry Cooke, Hugh Hanna and Joseph Mackenzie. The tour will also call at the graves of Rachel Mercer who died ‘from injuries received in the collision between SS Dromedary and SS Alligator’ on 12th August 1900, and Samuel Young MP who, on his death in 1918 at the age of 96, was the oldest-ever member of the UK Parliament.
